White Water Rafting in Cagayan De Oro

My first ever white water rafting experience was in Cagayan De Oro city, a province in Northern Mindanao.

Mindanao is the southermost island among the 3 major islands of the Philippines. It is also the richest in natural resources – fish and agricultural products like corn, pineapples, grains. A big chunk of the Muslim population in the Philippines reside here and it’s pretty obvious when you land in the airport. It’s noticeably quiet. Women are wearing their traditional veil.

From Laguindingan Airport, you will take a shuttle van into the city proper. This is for 200 pesos.

I went to CDO only for this activity and I made the right choice in picking Kagay! They are one of the few groups that offer white water rafting in CDO. They picked me up early from my hotel at 11AM. I signed up for the 12NN trip – the BASIC course cost me around 700 pesos.

There is time to swim, of course!

I got lucky with strong group mates! I was the only girl in the group and I did not fall over. Heehee.

It was so much fun. We went through 21 rapids. The advanced course will expose you to bigger and stronger ones.

We do a paddle high-five after each rapid to say ‘good job’ to one another.

Important things to remember:

  1. Be on time. Bring water and food, you will get hungry. Bring also a change of clothes. You can wear sandals for this activity.
  2. Listen to your guide and follow his instructions. This will save you from falling off the boat. But it would be fun to fall too.
  3. If you are alone or if you are going as a pair, you will be included in a group so complete 1 boat. No need to worry! Be ready to make friends.
